This map of Yzerfontein, located on the West Coast of the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this coastal town and its surrounding landmarks. Yzerfontein lies north of Cape Town, beside the Atlantic Ocean, with long sandy beaches, rocky shoreline, coastal fynbos and views towards Dassen Island forming the main features of the area. The town is known for Sixteen Mile Beach, its fishing and holiday-town character, spring wildflowers, birdlife and its position close to the West Coast National Park. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure of this small town are shown.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
Yzerfontein developed from a small coastal farming and fishing settlement into a popular West Coast village and holiday destination. The name is generally understood to mean “iron fountain”, probably referring to a spring or water source in the area. Its growth was shaped by fishing, farming, the nearby Dassen Island guano and maritime activity, and later by improved road access from Cape Town. Today Yzerfontein retains a quiet coastal character while also being associated with beach holidays, whale watching, wildflowers, seafood and the open landscapes of the West Coast.
