This map of the Vaal Dam, located at the junction of the provinces of Gauteng, Free State and Mpumalanga, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this large dam and its surrounding landmarks. These features include the Vaal River which feeds the dam, the towns of Deneysville near the dam wall, Oranjeville and Ventersdorp in the east. The N3 freeway between Gauteng and Durban is in the north east corner of the map. All of the surrounding road and rail infrastructure is shown.
This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art, and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. The Vaal Dam, a vital source of water for Gauteng's industrial and population hubs, was constructed during the Great Depression and completed in 1938. It was a joint venture between Rand Water and the Department of Irrigation to meet the growing demands of the Witwatersrand. The dam's capacity has been increased twice since its initial construction to keep pace with the region's expansion and it currently has a capacity of 2,6 million cubic metres. Its history is also marked by its role in inter-basin water transfer schemes, with water from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and the Sterkfontein Dam supplementing its supply.
The Classic shape is a 6:5 ratio in landscape format. For our detailed size guide for the classic format, click here
