This map of Riebeek-Kasteel, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this historic Swartland town and its surrounding landmarks. Riebeek-Kasteel lies on the slopes of the Kasteelberg, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, wheat fields and rolling farmland that characterise the Swartland region. This print includes the town's historic centre, nearby wine estates and the surrounding agricultural landscape, with panoramic views across the fertile plains towards the distant mountains. The town is known for its Cape Dutch architecture, wine, olives, art galleries and vibrant village atmosphere. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.
Riebeek-Kasteel was established in the mid-19th century after the Dutch Reformed Church was built in 1858, although farming in the area dates back to the early years of European settlement at the Cape. The town and nearby Riebeek West were named after Jan van Riebeeck, while the prominent Kasteelberg derives its name from its castle-like appearance. Agriculture has always been central to the town's development, with wheat farming later complemented by vineyards and olive cultivation, both of which have become defining features of the region. Today Riebeek-Kasteel is recognised as one of the Western Cape's best-preserved country villages, combining its agricultural heritage with tourism, fine food, wine and a thriving arts community.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Please contact us for a quote.
