Overview
This map of the town of Plettenberg Bay, located on the Garden Route of South Africa’s southern coast, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on the town and its adjacent neighbourhoods and iconic landmarks. These include the CBD and its adjacent suburbs to the north, south and west, the inland town of Wittedrift and the coastal towns of Keurboomstrand in the north and Kranshoek in the west. The Bitou and Keurbooms rivers flow from the north into the Keurbooms Estuary and the Piesang River meets the ocean at the Beacon Isle. The prominent Robberg Peninsula separates the rocky cliffs of the southern coastline from the sweeping sandy beaches to the north.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.

History
Plettenberg Bay, known for its pristine beaches and scenic beauty, has a history dating back to the 18th century when it was a whaling station. In 1778, the governor of the Cape, Joachim van Plettenberg, named the bay after himself and established a timber store here. The bay's natural shelter provided a perfect location for whaling ships, and the industry thrived for a period. The town's modern development began in the 20th century as a popular holiday destination. Today, Plettenberg Bay is a major tourist hub, famous for its luxurious resorts, stunning beaches, and a wide range of marine and wildlife activities, including whale and dolphin watching.
