This map of Franschhoek, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this old Huguenot settler town and its surrounding landmarks. Franschhoek, meaning "French Corner" in Dutch, has a rich and distinct history tied to the arrival of French Huguenot refugees in 1688. Fleeing religious persecution in France, these settlers were granted land in the valley by the Dutch East India Company. They brought with them their knowledge of viticulture and farming, transforming the area into a flourishing agricultural and wine-producing region. Many of the original farms still bear French names like La Motte and La Provence, and the town's French heritage is celebrated today through its renowned food and wine culture, and the annual Bastille Festival.
