This map of Franschhoek, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this old Huguenot settler town and its surrounding landmarks. These include the Berg River and Berg River Dams to the west and the Franschhoek Pass through the Franschhoek Mountains of the Hottentots Holland Range to the north and east of the town. The town itself is surrounded by wine farms. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.
This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art, and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Franschhoek, meaning "French Corner" in Dutch, has a rich and distinct history tied to the arrival of French Huguenot refugees in 1688. Fleeing religious persecution in France, these settlers were granted land in the valley by the Dutch East India Company. They brought with them their knowledge of viticulture and farming, transforming the area into a flourishing agricultural and wine-producing region. Many of the original farms still bear French names like La Motte and La Provence, and the town's French heritage is celebrated today through its renowned food and wine culture, and the annual Bastille Festival.
