This map of Cradock (Nxuba), located in the Eastern Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this Karoo town and its iconic landmarks. These include the old town centre and the newer township of Lingelihle, the Great Fish River along the western and southern edge of the town and the Bankberg mountain range further to the south. All of the buildings and road & rail infrastructures are shown.
This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art, and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Cradock (Nxuba), founded in 1813 on the banks of the Great Fish River, was established as a British military outpost to protect the frontier from Xhosa attacks. Named after the then-governor of the Cape Colony, Sir John Cradock, the town quickly developed into a thriving agricultural community. Its fertile soil and abundant water supply made it a centre for wool and mohair production. Cradock is also a town of literary significance, having been home to the renowned South African writer Olive Schreiner, and it boasts a number of well-preserved historical buildings, including a Dutch Reformed Mother Church designed to resemble St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London.
