This map of Stanford, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this old settler town and its landmarks. These include the old town centre along the southern banks of the Klein River and the newer urban and agricultural developments further to the south. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.
This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art, and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Stanford, a picturesque village on the banks of the Klein River, was established on the farm "Kleine Riviers Vallei" in 1857. It was named after Captain Sir Robert Stanford, a British army officer who purchased the farm in 1838. His entrepreneurial spirit saw him transport produce by sea to Cape Town, avoiding the treacherous mountain passes. The town's growth was driven by its fertile land and the presence of a strong water source. Today, Stanford is recognized as a heritage site and the third most preserved village in the Western Cape, known for its well-maintained Cape Victorian and Edwardian architecture, a conservation effort led by the local Stanford Conservation Trust.
