Overview
Simon’s Town lies on the eastern shore of the Cape Peninsula overlooking False Bay. The town layout has always been restricted by mountainside and coastline to a narrow curving strip of land and the town’s streets follow the steep slopes above the harbour and naval base. Our map focuses on the harbour and its adjacent neighbourhoods and iconic landmarks. These include the Naval Base, Bayview Heights, Admiral’s Kloof, Simon’s Kloof, Harbour Heights, Seaforth, Boulders Beach and the surrounding Red Hill peaks. All road and rail infrastructure as well as buildings are shown.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.

History
Simon's Town is a historic naval base with a rich past dating back to the 18th century. Originally established by the Dutch East India Company in 1741 as a winter anchorage, its strategic importance grew under British rule, becoming a Royal Navy base in 1814. The harbour played a crucial role in both World Wars, serving as a key Allied naval station. Today, it remains the home of the South African Navy and is a significant part of the town's identity. The harbour's deep waters and sheltered location continue to make it a vital maritime hub. Visitors can explore the charming waterfront, observe naval vessels in action, and learn about its fascinating history at the Simon's Town Museum. The town is also famous for Boulders Beach, where a colony of endangered African penguins live in a protected reserve.
