This map of Malgas, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this small riverside settlement and its surrounding landmarks. Malgas lies on the banks of the Breede River in the Overberg region, surrounded by rolling farmland, fynbos and wetlands. This print includes the historic Malgas Pont, South Africa's last remaining hand-operated river ferry, together with the river, nearby nature reserves and the surrounding rural landscape. The area is known for its tranquil setting, boating, fishing, birdlife and access to the lower Breede River. All the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.
Malgas developed as a small river crossing and farming settlement, with its history closely linked to the Breede River and the surrounding agricultural district. The village takes its name from a local farmer, Sebastian "Sebastiaan" Malgas, who lived in the area during the early years of European settlement. For many years the hand-operated pont provided an essential crossing for travellers, farmers and livestock, becoming an important transport link before permanent bridges were built elsewhere. Today Malgas remains a quiet rural destination, valued for its historic ferry, natural beauty and outdoor recreation, while retaining its close connection to the farming communities of the Overberg.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Please contact us for a quote.
