This map of Langebaan, located on the West Coast of the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this coastal town and its surrounding landmarks. Langebaan lies on the edge of the Langebaan Lagoon, close to the West Coast National Park, with the sheltered lagoon, beaches, wetlands, dunes and surrounding fynbos forming the main features of the area. The town is known for its calm blue water, birdlife, spring wildflowers and water-based activities such as sailing and kitesurfing. Our printed map includes all of the buildings and the road infrastructure of the town.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in three styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
Langebaan has a long history shaped by the lagoon, the sea and the natural resources of the West Coast. The wider area contains important archaeological and fossil sites, while the lagoon and nearby islands were later used by early European visitors for sealing, whaling, fishing and guano collection. The town itself was formally established in 1922 and developed around fishing and whaling, with a whaling station operating at Donkergat until the mid-20th century. In more recent decades Langebaan has grown into a popular coastal and holiday town, closely associated with the West Coast National Park, the lagoon and the seasonal wildflower displays of the surrounding region.
