Details

This map of the Hartbeespoort Dam, located 40km west of Pretoria in the North West Province, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this important dam and its surrounding landmarks. These features include the Crocodile River and smaller Magalies River which feed the dam, the Magaliesberg Mountain range to the north, the marina resorts on the south bank and the town of Hartbeespoort to the east. All of the surrounding road and rail infrastructure is shown.

This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art and is based on data from various up-to-date sources.  Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing.  A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish.  We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images.  Please contact us for a quote.

The Hartbeespoort Dam, located on the Crocodile River, has a history fraught with challenges. While a Boer general, Hendrik Schoeman, first attempted to build a dam in the area in 1898, the project was plagued by financial problems and floods. The current dam's construction began in 1918 and was completed in 1923, with its official opening in 1924. The dam's iconic "Victory Arch" and Latin inscriptions on the wall symbolize the triumph over adversity in its construction. The dam has a capacity of 186,400 cubic metres. Today, it is a popular recreational area and a major feature of the Hartbeespoort town, although it has faced significant challenges with water quality due to pollution and the negative impacts of invasive water plants.
