This map of Graaff-Reinet, located in the Eastern Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this old Karoo town and its iconic landmarks. These include the old town centre nestled in the bend of the Sundays River, the Nqweba dam to the north and the newer townships of Masizakhe and Kroonvale to the east. All of the buildings and the road & rail infrastructures are shown.
This map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art and is based on data from various up-to-date sources. Our default paper choice is the high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution which is perfect for framing. A 260gsm satin photo paper is also available for those who prefer a different texture and finish. We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Graaff-Reinet is the oldest town in the Eastern Cape and the fourth oldest in South Africa, founded by the Dutch East India Company in 1786. Named after Governor Cornelis Jacob van de Graaff and his wife, Reinet, the town was the centre of a short-lived burgher rebellion against the company's rule in 1795. Its strategic position in a bend of the Sundays River made it a significant frontier town and a major stopover for travellers and traders. Graaff-Reinet is now famous for having more national monuments than any other town in South Africa, thanks to a concerted effort to restore its stunning historical buildings.
