This map of Darling, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this small Swartland town and its surrounding landmarks. Darling lies inland from the West Coast, north of Cape Town, in an area known for wheatfields, vineyards, dairy farms and seasonal spring wildflowers. All of the buildings are shown on the map as well as the road and rail infrastructure.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
Darling was founded in 1853 on the farm Langfontein and was named after Sir Charles Henry Darling, who served as Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape Colony in the early 1850s. The area had earlier developed as part of the Groenkloof farming district, with agriculture forming the basis of the town’s growth. Over time Darling became known for wheat, wine, dairy farming and its annual spring flower displays, with the Darling Wildflower Society established in 1915 and the flower show dating from 1917. Today the town retains its agricultural character while also being associated with heritage buildings and cultural attractions such as Evita Bezuidenhout’s theatre at Evita se Perron.
