This map of Cape Agulhas, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this iconic peninsula and its surrounding landmarks. Cape Agulhas marks the southernmost point of the African continent, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans are conventionally considered to meet. This print includes the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, Cape Agulhas National Park, the coastal villages of L'Agulhas, Suiderstrand and Struisbaai, together with the rocky shoreline, sandy beaches and surrounding limestone fynbos. The peninsula is renowned for its dramatic coastal scenery, rich biodiversity, maritime heritage and significance as one of South Africa's most recognisable geographical landmarks. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.
Cape Agulhas has played an important role in maritime history for centuries, with its dangerous reefs, unpredictable seas and numerous shipwrecks making it one of the world's most challenging stretches of coastline. The Portuguese gave the cape its name, meaning "Cape of Needles", because early navigators observed that the magnetic compass showed little or no variation from true north in this area. The Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, completed in 1849, is the second-oldest working lighthouse in South Africa and remains a prominent landmark. Today the settlements of L'Agulhas, Suiderstrand and neighbouring Struisbaai combine a long fishing tradition with conservation and tourism, attracting visitors to the southernmost tip of Africa, its unique coastal landscapes and rich natural heritage.
Map Design and Paper
The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing; a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish; and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.
We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images. Please contact us for a quote.
