Details

This map of Arniston, located in the Western Cape, is a modern and detailed map that focuses on this historic coastal village and its surrounding landmarks. Arniston lies on the Overberg coast between Cape Agulhas and De Hoop Nature Reserve, overlooking the Indian Ocean with its white sandy beaches, rocky shoreline and limestone cliffs. This print includes the nearby Waenhuiskrans sea cave, the Kassiesbaai fishing village and the surrounding coastal fynbos and farmland. The town is known for its unspoilt scenery, traditional fishing heritage and spectacular coastal landscapes. All of the buildings and the road infrastructure are shown.

Arniston takes its name from the British East Indiaman Arniston, which was wrecked nearby in 1815 with the loss of more than 350 lives, one of South Africa's worst maritime disasters. The neighbouring fishing settlement of Kassiesbaai had already been established by local fishing families and remains one of the country's best-preserved traditional fishing villages, with its whitewashed and thatched cottages now recognised as a national heritage site. Over time Arniston developed as a small holiday destination while retaining its close connection to the sea, fishing and the unique cultural heritage of the Overberg coast.

Map Design and Paper

The map is an original creation by our design studio at Africa Map Art. Data for this map has been compiled from various up-to-date sources including from the OpenStreetMap contributors. The map is available in four styles and on the following two paper options and canvas: a high quality 210gsm heavyweight coated paper with a matte finish, which achieves excellent colour and resolution and is perfect for framing;  a 260gsm photo paper with a smooth satin finish;  and a 350gsm strengthened canvas. All of the options are shipped in a cardboard roll for protection. The canvas is unstretched and unframed.

We welcome personalisation and customisation requests, such as highlighting of specific buildings or features, adjusting the colour scheme, or the addition of text and images.  Please contact us for a quote.
